Frankfurt Afternoon

As the time for my second girls getaway to Amsterdam rolled around, we found that Ken had meetings in Heidelberg and Frankfurt where Caslin was living. So we spent a few hours touring the city the day before our trip. Frankfort is quite different from Munich in that there are many more new buildings and tall buildings. We toured the old section of course.

The cathedral is under renovation and difficult to get to but it is still striking.

In the shadow of the cathedral we found a chocolate cafe. What a brilliant idea! It was charming and the frozen chocolate drink was rich and yummy.

After our chocolate fix, we wandered through the old center of town.

We even saw the oldest surviving building in Frankfurt which is still inhabited.

There is a pedestrian bridge that crosses the river and as with everywhere we have been, the love locks are taking over.

There are also some great views.

The access towers at the end of the bridge have markers showing the various  flood levels. There were a few that are almost unbelievable to imagine.

We ended our evening at a lovely river side restaurant with Caslin and Christian enjoying some local Frankfurt specialties.
